Get ready to show your costumes on Oct. 31! Please bring canned food/or money (50 cents or more) for Halloween for Hunger. Or else you can't join the dance.
The train ride to the next era is slowly dawning upon us. The world is changing at an extremely fast rate! According to former U.S. Education Secretary, Richard Riley, the top 10 in-demand jobs in 2010 did not even exist in 2004! That is because the technologies used in high-demand jobs in 2010 haven’t even been invented in 2004! That is why teachers and staff at David Lloyd George Elementary School(DLG) have been working extremely hard to teach students how to use technology effectively and use it as an advantage. They have been doing that by creating DLG’s very first Tech-Night. Tech-Night is an event at DLG where parents can visit the school with or without their children during the evening and go through a series of stations. DLG teachers will promote the use of technology and how they’re going to incorporate it with learning. “Tech-Night is the future!” says a parent who has urged that the school get even more involved. Some think that is not possible. For instance, the school has purchased 30 and more iPads for hands-on learning. That’s over $30,000. There are SmartBoards in a majority in the school’s classrooms. The school, to make it even more unbelievable, has over 25 iPod touches and is always advancing this even farther. These features all combine to make an event like Tech-Night possible. The stations will contain interactive activities where parents can experience the world of technology first-hand. The stations will range from Podcasts in the Classroom to Powerful Prezi Presentations. Just the type of events Steve Jobs would love. “The future is accelerating” says a Grade 7 student at DLG. At this rate of change, the world will experience 20,000 years of change this century! The train has already left to the next time. Attending school at David Lloyd George Elementary is like getting a free-ticket.
