March 22 2006 a B.C sank and it wasn’t until Feb. 6 this year we found out what really happened. Former captain, Colin Henthorne has finally released what really happened in detailed explanation Colin was fired after the crash. The ship was called the Queen of the north passenger I will be explaining what happened or at least what Colin said. Colin did not wake up from the sinking but rather his crew mate banging on his door. Colin didn’t seem to be in a hurry because he said "Before I got my shoes on, the ship struck aground." "I recognized immediately what it was. There was no mistaking that we were striking ground and continued to hammer along the rock." The ferry hit the Gil Island off British Columbia's northern coast. Karl ligert was charged for causing the death of two passengers both passengers are just presumed dead Karl pled guilty for both charges. Colin told the court he rushed to the wheelhouse where alarms were ringing and officers were already taking their positions. He couldn't recall whether Lilgert was still on the bridge by that point. He checked the radar and saw the ferry was extremely close to land, he said. Outside the windows of the bridge, he saw mostly darkness, except for a single white light he assumed was coming from another boat several miles away.
"The first thing I did after taking those two glances was to pick up the microphone to the PA system," is what he told the supreme court."I made an announcement for all passengers and crew to proceed directly to the boat and raft stations." They did all the could to save the ship but in the end failed The thought they had gotten all the people on board but the two missing passengers created a huge problem. Even after Karl Ligert pled guilty people think the trail will take another six months.
Editor's opinion:
I was very confused when i read this article after almost seven years you would think that the would have sorted this. I think that was a sad night hopefully this will get settled and justice will be served. I also hope that the BC ferries will not get fewer customers after this story. because i was freaked out when I found this article because a few years ago i was on a BC ferry.
